Where to begin with the slate of games we saw yesterday? With only 10 games yesterday, we somehow managed to see 35 Homers and 9 players with multi homer games! All of that leading to 144 total runs scored, an average of 7.2 runs scored per team.
We got our day started early in Seattle where two slow starting teams in the Mariners and Astros played for what felt like a must win game. The Mariners got out early and never looked back, with Josh Naylor hitting Homers in the 1st and 3rd inning and George Kirby throwing a nearly 8 innings of great work leading to a solid Mariners home win.
As we move into the Main slate of games the common theme of the year remains, the teams you thought would be good are struggling and the Pirates are winning. There is no secret the Chicago Cubs offense has been struggling, but fortunately for them they turned in a solid offense performance, scoring 7 runs against a CY Young contender in Christopher Sanchez. Unfortunately for them they ran head long into a buzzsaw that was the Phillies offense yesterday, scoring 13 runs including 2 Kyle Schwarber Home runs. On the flip side of the NL Central, the Pirates keep on winning improving to 10-6. It was a Skenes day and after a 1st inning CJ Abrams Home run tensions were high of another potential Skenes opening day start. That would be the only hit surrendered by Skenes in 6 innings of work and the Pirates would go on to win 16-5 backed by another great offensive day from Oneil Cruz.
The AL East had a very notable night, as the Orioles claw back from a 6 run deficit against the Diamondbacks following multi homer games from Ketel Marte and Nolan Arenado in the first 5 innings. The Orioles went on their run in the 6th including a Jeremiah Jackson grandslam going on to win 9-7. The Boston Redsox looked to bounce back in a big way having Crochett on the hill and needing a must have win against the Twins. To Everyones surprise and an absolute nightmate scenario for the Sox, Crochett allows 11 runs through 1.2 innings and the Red Sox once again add another notch to the loss column losing 13-6.
That brings us to our game of the day, where the New York Yankees take on the Angels in the Bronx. The Yankees are coming off a 5 game losing stretch and looking to bounce back. They got off to a hot start with an Aaron Judge 456 ft drive in the first, and mounting a 4 run lead. The Angels did not go away as the tie the game in the 4th. A 3 run Trent Grisham Home run breaks it open in the 5th, until Mike trout Matches with his own 3 run home run in the 6th. In the bottom of that same inning Aaron Judge would once again Homer to take an 8-7 lead but after a Josh Lowe sac fly and yet another Mike Trout home run, the Angles led 10-8 going into the 9th. After a Jazz Chisolm single, Trent Grisham would hit his second home run of the game tying the game at 10. The Yankees would eventually walk it off following a Jose Caballero double and a wild pitch to end it. Between the two teams 21 runs, 7 home runs and 8 lead changes, made this our game of the day.
Additionally the Marlins beat the Braves 10-4, the Guardians beat the Cardinals 9-3, The Rangers beat the Athletics 8-1 and the Dodgers beat the Mets 4-0.
